Target and Other Partners Help Brighten Holidays for Needy Families (Dec 22, 2006)
The holidays were a little brighter for several needy Delaware County families thanks to some "elves" from Target, Columbus Worthington Air, Delaware Christian Church and People in Need, who collaborated with United Way on a "special delivery" just in time for Christmas.
Target donated pre-decorated display Christmas trees to United Way for distribution to the families, along with lighted yard sculptures, fiber-optic tabletop ornaments and other decorations. The project is a tradition for Target nationally; local stores work with the United Ways in their home communities. Kevin May, the employee campaign coordinator (ECC) at Target at Polaris Towne Center, helped to package and load the trees.
There were presents to place underneath the trees, thanks to People in Need, a United Way agency, which provided toys, puzzles, stuffed animals, hats and gloves, and Delaware Christian Church, which donated Wal-Mart gift cards.
Columbus Worthington Air generously provided the delivery "sleigh" and driver. On Dec. 22, the donated items were delivered to families in Delaware County in a truck provided for the occasion by Columbus Worthington Air.
Volunteering as Mr. and Mrs. Santa for the day were Laurie Cox, campaign relationship manager at United Way of Delaware County, and husband Jeremy Cox, a certified comfort consultant at Columbus Worthington Air, who delivered the donated items.
United Way is grateful to all of the community partners who made possible this holiday project.
