Volunteers Take a Well-Deserved Bow at Theatrical Thank You Event (Dec 05, 2006)

When “Manna from Heaven,” an independent film boasting Oscar, Tony and Emmy winners, rolled across the screen of the historic Strand Theatre in Delaware on Dec. 5, United Way volunteers shared the stage with Hollywood stars.

With the help of professional filmmaker and Delaware native Gabrielle Burton of Five Sisters Productions, and the sponsorship of Manos, Martin, Pergram & Dietz, attorneys at law, United Way of Delaware County created a special event in the 90-year-old theater to honor volunteers and their families.

As volunteers and family members enjoyed pizzas from Marco’s and popcorn and sodas from The Strand, United Way board chair and campaign co-chair William Nolan applauded volunteers who organize and coordinate campaigns, distribute supplies, and serve on community investment teams that review, evaluate and monitor results at funded programs.

In a campaign update, Nolan announced that all six Pacesetter companies in this year’s campaign have achieved increases, with Floyd Browne Group leading the group with a 27 percent increase. Although several large companies have yet to kick off their 2006 campaigns, United Way of Delaware County has raised $2.2 million of its $2.85 million goal.

The “feel good” news of volunteer and campaign successes that was shared by the crowd continued as they viewed “Manna from Heaven.”The film is one of several movies produced by Gabrielle Burton and her sisters (Maria, Jennifer, Ursula and Charity) that are entertaining but also contribute to a sense of hope on a personal or social level.

Guests at the event had their photos taken with Gabrielle Burton, asked one-on-one questions about her filmmaking career, received complimentary autographed DVDs of “Manna” and participated in a raffle for door prizes.
