Letter to the Editor on Donor Designation (Feb 28, 2006)
United Way Campaign Chair Encourages …
“Live Here? Give Here.”
This week, as United Way of Delaware County observes its third annual “Donor Designation Awareness Week,” we encourage you to share with your readers an important message about how they can keep charitable dollars working here in our county.
Each year, Delaware County residents who work in other counties pledge more than $200,000 during United Way campaigns at their workplaces. We’d like to remind those friends and neighbors that “if you live here, please give here” so their many generous United Way contributions will come back to Delaware County to be used for pressing human services needs here at home.
Annually, as much as half of the money pledged by those who work outside Delaware County is lost from our community because donors are not aware of donor designation choices, or because they simply forget. The process to designate their gift is simple: On the pledge form, complete the section that allows for “designating a pledge” by writing in “United Way of Delaware County, P.O. Box 319, Delaware, OH 43015”and the amount of your annual gift.
As we continue this year’s campaign to raise $2.6 million for local human service needs, we send our thanks, in advance, to those who designate a United Way gift to Delaware County to keep our volunteer-driven efforts of United Way working on “what matters” here in our county. We invite you to call United Way at (740) 369-9618 or visit our Web site, www.uwaydelaware.org, to find out how your gift is producing results you can see.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey T. Benton,
President & CEO, Delaware County Bank
2005 United Way Campaign Chair
