United Way of Delaware County and Target Team Up for Christmas Tree Donations (Dec 18, 2008)

DELAWARE, Ohio—Delaware County’s community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving peoples’ lives through social service solutions, United Way of Delaware County, and Target at Polaris Parkway are joining forces to provide three area families with special Christmas trees on Tuesday, December 23.

Target will donate the trees to United Way of Delaware County volunteers who will take the trees to the families' homes, with the use of Columbus Worthington Air's work truck being donated as well.  The artificial Superior Spruce, Norway Fir and White Glacier trees are fully decorated and come with a special ornament signifying the United Way and Target's partnership with the venture.

This is the 18th consecutive year Target has donated decorated holiday trees to local community partners and families in need, with almost 1,700 Target stores donating more than 5,000 trees nationwide. Area United Way groups commonly donate the trees to United Way partners such as shelters, community centers, childcare programs and families in need.

“On a local level, the United Way of Delaware County has participated in the program with the Polaris Target for several years,” said Laurie Cox, United Way of Delaware County campaign director. “Target and United Way share the same goal of improving lives and it is an honor to deliver the trees to deserving families right here in our community. We truly value our relationship with the local Target on Polaris Parkway.”

“We are proud of our longstanding partnership with the United Way, a recognized leader in building strong families and healthy communities,” states Kevin May, Target Polaris executive team leader. “The United Way is more focused than ever in strengthening its efforts to advance the common good, and each Target store can have a role. Target’s contributions have created a positive change for the people of Delaware County. With the power of the entire Target team, we strive to strengthen communities where we live and work and LIVE UNITED.”

“Target has a long-standing commitment of giving to the communities we serve,” said Laysha Ward, president, community relations, Target. “In today’s economy, the Christmas season creates an added challenge for families who are struggling to meet their basic needs. Through our ongoing partnership with United Way and the ‘Share-a-Tree’ program, we’re honored to donate Christmas trees to these families and help them continue their holiday traditions.”

Target is a valued supporter of the United Way and is known as a National Corporate Leader contributor for the non-profit organization. The United Way of America reports the national 2008 fall fundraising campaign donation from Target is up eight per cent while individual Target store’s campaign donations have risen more than ten per cent this year.
