Your Donor Dollars at Work

United Way of Delaware County will reinvest $2.2 million of donor gifts in the community in fiscal year 2011. Your United Way dollars stay local, allocated annually to local funding partners by specially trained "community impact team" volunteers who also monitor the results and effectiveness of programs to ensure that your dollars are used wisely.

Essential


  • American Red Cross, Delaware County Chapter - $229,035 for emergency/disaster services, health/safety services (education impact area), and blood services (health impact area). 
  • Council for Older Adults (Home-Delivered Meals) - $110,000 for meals delivered to homebound ill or disabled residents under the age of 60.
  • Family Promise - $65,000 emergency, short-term housing for homeless families and job skills/readiness programming and support.
  • Friends of CASA - $10,000 to support the volunteers who serve as court appointed child advocates.
  • HelpLine of Delaware & Morrow Counties - $137,026 for information and referral services, the Connections Volunteer Center, and violence prevention (education impact area).
  • Legal Aid Society - $37,356 for civil legal assistance to low-income persons.
  • Marion Shelter - $17,500 to support homeless shelters and programming for Delaware County persons.
  • People in Need - $267,543 for emergency assistance and food pantry. 
  • Salvation Army - $136,644 to support transitional housing programs, housing for families with disabilities, youth housing for those aging out of the foster care system, and homelessness prevention.
  • Turning Point - $100,000 for advocacy services and assistance for victims of domestic violence.

  • Action for Children - $95,889 for the Woodward Family Resource Center to assist low-income families with resources and linkage; referrals to affordable child care (education impact area), and professional development for child care providers (education impact area).
  • Community Action Organization - $35,000 for tax preparation assistance for low-income wage earners.
Education
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Central Ohio - $105,000 for youth mentoring.
  • Boy Scouts of America, Simon Kenton Council - $25,000 for youth development.
  • Directions for Youth & Families - $60,000 for in-home counseling for at-risk youth.
  • Girl Scouts-Ohio's Heartland - $35,239 for youth development.
  • Liberty Community Center - $220,000 for early childhood day care.
     

Health


  • Concord Counseling - $17,034 for transportation for senior citizens to medical appointments and other errands.
  • Delaware General Health District - $11,017 to prevent childhood obesity through school exercise and nutrition programming and curriculum.
  • Delaware Speech & Hearing Center - $163,931 for assessment and treatment of speech, language pathology and audiology.
  • Heritage Day Health Centers - $32,482 for adult day care services.
  • Maryhaven - $48,011 to provide substance abuse counseling and treatment.
  • Senior Services for Independent Living - $90,000 for independent living assistance.
