Community Care Day

Community Care Day  - Community Care Day, held at area non-profit agencies and community improvement projects, took place onTuesday, September 16, 2008 with United Way of Delaware County's annual fund-raising partners and their employees contributing thousands of labor hours. In all, 230 people volunteered their time at 17 different ventures.   Volunteers tackled jobs like making holiday cards for seniors, painting and organizing buildings as well as extra duties of storm-clean up at many of the sites. Below is a list of some of the projects tackled during Community Care Day 2008:

American Red Cross – OCLC and Associated Hygienic Products built shelves, organized the basement and completed yardwork
Delaware Speech and Hearing – Greif cleaned-up storm damage and completed yard work duties
HelpLine – Rockwell Automation landscaped and conducted storm clean-up
Heritage Day Health Center – JC Penney held a carnival for program participants
Liberty Community Center – Exel cleaned, repaired a fence and read to children
Senior Nutrition – Exel, Ohio Health and Luvata made holiday cards for seniors

"The volunteers worked hard all day!", adds Guy Naples, Delaware Speech and Hearing Center Executive Director. "Their well-timed visit allowed for post-storm clean up as well as fall planting of mums and spring bulbs. Their efforts will be appreciated by our clients for years to come."

Shirley Cassidy of Grief Inc. contributed by cleaning up the grounds at the Delaware Speech and Hearing Clinic, funded by the United Way. "This was not only a way to help a United Way agency, but it was also a way to give back to my employer," states Cassidy.

The United Way of Delaware County has a goal of raising 3.8 million dollars this year and welcomes more businesses to join the effort. The organization's mission and theme for the campaign is to "Live United", which is accomplished by giving, advocating and volunteering. Contributions of money, time and support help the United Way of Delaware County change lives and shape local communities.
